My Current Daily Routine - food, gym, workout, work etc.

I thought it would be interesting to document my average daily routine just to see it down on paper what a day for me looks like, it is not something I have ever documented so this will be fun to do. I would say I flick between three normal daily routines, depending on what I am doing. Because I work alternate hours, this has a big effect on my routine, for example my morning will look very different if I start work at 2.30pm as opposed to starting at 5.45am. For the purpose of this blog post, I will take a day where I have work in the afternoon, because then I can still get in a lovely morning routine - whereas if I start at 5.45am, it is usually a case of literally rolling out of bed and into the gym in 15 mins lol.

So I usually go to sleep around 9pm on a daily basis, this is just the time my body is ready for sleep because I usually get up so early. I like to read before bed as this gets me nice and sleepy and lets my body know it can relax and get ready for sleep.

Depending on what I am doing in the morning, I usually get up at around 6.00am, I don’t set my alarm most of the time because I am such an early riser and will wake up naturally, but if my body needs more sleep, if I don’t have an alarm set, I will be able to just get in that extra couple of hours if need be. After I wake up, I like to just have a nice stretch in bed, and then I will get up snd immediately wash my face. At the moment I am using a Medik8 foaming cleanser which I love, after I have washed my face, I will apply my Banish Acne Scars Vitamin C serum and my Vitamin C moisturiser. These two products are honestly magic and my skin now always feels so unreal - highly recommend for anyone struggling with acne scarring. I also weigh myself every morning because I like to track my weight seeing as I am trying to lose a teeny bit. I recommend weighing yourself daily and taking the average from these weekly, seeing as weight can fluctuate on a day to day. After this, I will usually down about a litre of water.

Once I have washed my face and fully woken myself up, I make my bed, open my curtains and then I will check my phone. I just have a far clearer head if I don’t look at my phone first thing. I will then go into the kitchen, and if I have fresh lemons or limes, I will squeeze a lime wedge into a glass of warm water, and add in a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar. If I don’t have lemon or lime I’ll just have a shot of ACV. This is just something I have done religiously ever since I started suffering with acne as it balances your pH levels. Then it is coffee time (wooo my fave time of the day). At the moment I am loving a double espresso with a dash of Oat Milk, it tastes sooo good & creamy. Whilst I drink my coffee, I will either write out a to do list for the day, or my goals for the day/week/month/year etc whatever I am feeling. Sometimes though, I’ll just sit on the sofa and watch Youtube whilst drinking my coffee lol. I know this is probably not the most productive use of my time but I enjoy it.

By this time, it’s probably been about an hour since I have woken up, then I’ll start cooking my breakfast. I don’t like eating as soon as I wake up, I usually just wait until I am hungry. A breakfast I have been loving lately is a wild salmon fillet, a fried egg in coconut oil, oven baked 1/2 sweet potato, 1/4 an avocado, 1/2 a diced beetroot all on a bed of spinach or kale. It is soo yum and very filling. If I am extra hungry, or am eating really late in the day, I usually just add another egg and or 1/2 an avo instead of 1/4. I like to make double of whatever I am cooking so it is easier for me to grab and not have to think too much about cooking all the time. So for example I’ll cook bulk sweet potato and cook up a couple of salmon fillets so they are ready to just add to my salad. I also really enjoy eating all of my food cold so I will literally just grab this out of the fridge and put it in a bowl (I know this is really strange don’t judge). Again, whilst eating brekkie I will probably be watching Youtube. Although, watching TV while I am eating as I habit I would like to change, as I feel like I now always associate watching TV with food, so when it is not a meal time and I am watching TV I just always want to snack, because of that habit I have formed. It also means that when I am eating, I am not focussing on my food, it is just mindless eating and I really want to engage in mindful eating. I may start slow with one day a week where I have breakfast at the table with no other distractions so I can actually focus on what I am putting into my body. I find the best way to break negative habits, is to do it gradually.

After breakfast, I will either go to the shops and buy some food to prep for dinner and lunch/dinner the next day if I don’t have anything in the house. This will usually be some form of salad. E.g. some poached chicken, coupled with something like grilled peppers, mushrooms, ginger, garlic, zucchini on a bed of spinach with a bit of wild rice or sweet potato. I’ll then use hummus and/or 1/4 Avocado as a sauce. This is super easy, and would probably take a total of 30 mins and then you have two meals done, or more if you want to prepare more.

Once this is all done, it’s time to get ready for the gymm. Sometimes I’ll get there early and go to a circuit class, and I really stress the sometimes as this happens very rarely lol. I usually walk to the gym, it takes around 35 minutes and it is a good way to get my steps in & warm myself up for my session. My workout split at the moment is 5 resistance sessions per week, and cardio when I feel like it (it usually works out to be 1 or 2 times a week coupled with a lot of walking). With my weights, at the moment I am doing the following;

Day 1: Chest

Day 2: Back, butt and abs

Day 3: Shoulders

Day 4: Arms and abs

Day 5: legs and butt

Once I have done my gym session, I will get showered and ready for work, I usually just put on a bit of my bare minerals complexion rescue which is spf30 and a bit of mascara so I look slightly more presentable lol. This probably takes around 15-20 minutes, and I will then have my post workout meal. It really depends on how hungry I am, but post workout, I usually just like to keep it simple. I’ll have some yoghurt (either coconut or full fat greek), with some protein powder and a tsp of peanut butter (natural, check the ingredients). At the moment I am using an egg white powder form My Protein and I love it, the ingredients are literally just 98% egg whites and a tiny bit of sweetener, as I find if I have too much artificial protein it can bloat me sometimes. I’ll add in a sliced frozen banana to this and some Maca powder for carbs after my workout to replenish my glycogen stores. This doesn’t sound like a lot but it is perfect after a workout when you are not too hungry and it is still around 400 kcal. It’s perfect after my brekkie as well as this is a higher calorie content, as well as my dinner that I have later. I personally love having two big meals and one smaller one, it really works for me, but that is just preference.

I’ll then go to work for the afternoon, and have my dinner that I prepped earlier on my break. Once I finish work, it is around 10.30pm if I am working late (eugh), I will literally head straight to bed. Just wash my face again with my cleanser (twice) after taking my makeup off with micellar water. I’ll then just apply some toner and the Banish Acne Scars Vit C serum. Then it is straight to bed!

That ended up being so much longer than I anticipated so thanks so much if you made it all the way to the end!
